In the summer of 2008, my wife and I decided that our 1928 summer cottage on Indian Lake in Dowagiac, Michigan was no longer suitable for our growing family. We purchased the cottage in 1982 and enjoyed summers with our five children, several who are now married with their own children.

We retained the services of an architect who worked with us over the next year as to what we wanted in the house. The planning of the structure was a long process, since not having built a house before, our ideas continued to evolve.

By July, 2009 we were ready to interview builders. Jeff was one of three builders that we interviewed and who submitted bids. We selected Jeff, who was not the lowest bidder, for a number of reasons. He had completed many houses in the area and was familiar with the Township officials and their rules and regulations. We inspected three homes that he had completed on Indian Lake and spoke with the owners of those homes who unanimously praised his work, his attention to detail and his willingness to come back and make minor adjustments even after the contract period had concluded.

We have not been disappointed with selecting Jeff. The house was demolished in late September and we began to move in by the middle of April. We finished ahead of schedule and slightly under budget.

Our permanent residence is in Chicago which did not allow us to be present while the house was being built. We were also out of the country for two weeks in late January. Therefore, we placed complete trust is all that Jeff was doing.

By February, the time came to make interior decisions such as selecting cabinets, carpeting, flooring, tiles, coloring and the fireplace mantle. We had initial choices on these items and worked with Jeff to refine the final choices. Jeff was invaluable in making suggestions on these issues that gave us ideas and options that we were not aware of.

We are now fully settled into the house and each time I arrive from Chicago, I shake my head in disbelief at what we accomplished. We have Jeff to primarily thank for what we now have.
